SMC Brands is a totally self-funded enterprise that operates as a wholesale liquor distributor for various brand principals, providing warehousing, distribution and debtor’s book services. We also specialise in advancing the brand of high-quality beverage and beverage-related businesses. We do this through offering a comprehensive range of supporting business services including sales and marketing, operating as an extension of your business itself. We currently operate in markets in Namibia, Botswana, Swaziland and Lesotho, with comprehensive administrative, logistical and IT support offered from our Cape Town offices.


SMC Brands has established a proven track record as distributor for Diageo, Namibian Breweries and Heineken International, operating in compliance with the King III Report on Corporate Governance.

Following the merger of Grand Metropolitan PLC and United Distillers & Vintners in 1998, a worldwide restructuring process unfolded, resulting in the withdrawal of business from certain African markets.


Rian Smit, at that time a Director of Gilbey Distillers & Vintners in Stellenbosch (UDV SA), and responsible for the operations in neighbouring  African Countries, proposed a management buyout of Gilbey & Taeuber Namibia, Gilbeys Swaziland and IDV Botswana.


In a joint venture with Konrad Taeuber of the Taeuber & Corssen Group, SMC Brands SA (Pty) Ltd was formed, and negotiations for the purchase of these companies were completed during February 1999. The exclusive distribution rights for all Diageo Brands formed part of the negotiations.


SMC Brands has entered into an exclusive partnership with Diageo, offering its professional distribution and business support services in advancing Diageo’s range of quality products.


Our other esteemed clients include Namibian Breweries, Heineken International, Tiger Brands, Du Toitskloof Wines, Van Loveren, La Motte, Spier.

With the exclusion of spirits brands (given its aforementioned exclusive business partnership with Diageo), SMC Brands invites and explores strategic partnerships with quality beverage and beverage related companies.


Products of interest include wines, soft drinks and energy drinks, and other products associated with the consumption of spirits, such as lime and fruit juices.
